...my true love gave to me: four Colly Birds! I always thought this lyric was "four calling birds". Not so according to the internet. A colly bird is a blackbird. In England colly means black like coal, it comes from the word for a coal mine which is a colliery. These black birds make strong shapes in today's illo.
